Since getting back from Europe, I have not been out with my camera as much as I had been. I suppose a part of that is because I just bought more memory and it seems like I have gone through a lot of it already. If you have read some of my previous posts, you may know that I bought a camera with over double the resolution of the one I had been using and it takes more memory per picture. While I like the camera, I think the one bad thing about it is how much memory it uses.
I have seen and/or heard owls, foxes, deer, and green heron since getting back to Virginia even if I didn’t always record the sound or get a picture. There are several young deer around here. They still have their spots and there is at least one male with antlers.
Every time I see or hear a fox, I remember the first few times that I remember hearing them around 2018. I did not know what the sound was and it scared me. As my dog and I were out walking each time I heard them and it was after sunset, we would run back to the house as fast as I could. Even now that I know what it is, it is still a scary sound, but I know that we are unlikely to have an issue with them. Most of the time, they run away when they see us.
Even though I tend to have trouble convincing myself to read during the warmer months of the year as I prefer to be outside and usually leave reading to the colder months, I have read an okay amount this summer. I have finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir which was made into a movie that was released months after I read the book, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, The Jackal’s Mistress by Chris Bohjalian, Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McCaughany, The Secret History by Donna Tartt, The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny, and some short stories by various authors. I am reading some other books right now, but I won’t mention them unless I finish them.
