When this website was first created, I had set out to write at least one blog a month. I have not been writing much for the past two years. With this post, I hope to start uploading consistently to the blog again.
A lot has happened like my sister graduating from an optometry college and starting work as an optometrist and her husband started training others to fly helicopters for the Navy after a few deployments.
During my sister’s externship in South Carolina, we visited her and I made sure that we got set up to take a boat ride to a coastal island. I checked with my brother-in-law to see when he was going to be with us as he had to drive from out of state as we all wanted him to join us on the boat ride.
On that island, you could only walk along the beach. It was interesting because you could see where the forest is now compared to where it used to be due to all the dead trees along the beach.
On the way to that island, we saw tons of laughing gulls and pelicans. On the way back, we were lucky enough to see some dolphins. One of the guides pointed out a baby that was nursing.
The day before everyone went on that boat ride together to a island, only my dad was available to do some exploring. My dad and I decided to go to a different coastal island that day. It was a last-minute decision made the day of and we were lucky to get a spot on the boat.
On this island, you were dropped off on the side of the island closest to the mainland. To get to the ocean side of the island, you had to walk on any of the numerous paths through the interior of the island. Before setting out on our walk, my dad and I asked which path was the best one for seeing wildlife.
As we walked, we came across two different large groups of egrets along with some alligators. Eventually, we made our way out to the beach on the other side of the island from where we had been dropped off. My dad was very impressed with that beach. I think that we were both disappointed that we did not have more time to explore as we spent so much time observing wildlife on the interior of the island.
One of the things that I enjoyed about this South Carolina trip was that I was able to show my brother-in-law an alligator. He had wanted to see one for a long time.
It is always interesting to go to new places and see different landscapes and wildlife. I am hoping that I can make some more trips happen and explore some more places.
