After I was given my grandpa’s telescope, I spent a lot of time looking at stuff in the night sky. I went out with the telescope every clear night. It wasn’t long after I got the telescope that I joined an astronomy club. They would meet at two different fields that were supposed to have very dark skies.
The first thing that I looked at through the telescope was Saturn. Just about every night that I would go out after that, I would look at Saturn at some point. I really enjoyed being able to see the rings that Saturn has with my own eyes.
Another thing that I often looked at was the planet Jupiter. With the telescope, I could see some of the moons. On many nights, I would look at the planet a few times to see where the moons were. I was able to watch as the moons would move around the planet. One night, I was watching as one of the moons disappeared from view behind the planet.
On some nights while looking through the telescope at my house, I would hear barred owls making their calls. They were always close to the nearby pond as I heard their calls.
