As I sit by the lake that I often go to, I sometimes see green herons. I was surprised when I first saw them as they are so much smaller than blue herons. While a blue heron’s wingspan can get to around six feet, the green heron’s wingspan only gets around twenty-six inches.
One of the last times that I saw the green heron, it was on the edge of the lake. It had been hunting for its food. I eventually saw it catch a small fish.
It wasn’t until later when I went through my pictures that I noticed that the fish that the heron had caught had some fishing line attached to it. I presume that the fish also had a hook in it as well.

When nesting, they tend to have around three to five eggs. It takes around twenty-one days for the eggs to hatch. They eat things like small fish and insects.
